Party policies

Abortion

Specific party policy on this issue:

The party has included the following statement in their 2017 general election manifesto:

We will (…) in light of the US government’s dangerous and anti-science attacks on international programmes of vaccination and family planning, which impact disproportionately on the health of women and children, seek to protect global spending on these essential provisions.

This appears to be a reference to the 2017 US reinstatement of the Mexico City Policy which prohibits U.S. foreign aid money from going to international non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that perform or promote abortions, as a method of family planning.

We have also contacted the party to ask them if they have any other policies that are not published in their manifesto or website that relate to this issue. Assisted suicide

Specific party policy on this issue:

The Liberal Democrats pledged in their 2004 spring conference to introduce legislation that would legalise assisted suicide. This appears to have been renewed in 2012 with a motion passed at their Liberal Democrat Party Conference for parliamentary time to be allotted to a Private Members Bill on the issue if it was tabled.
